What we do

More than a bag of food

We provide weekly food parcels — and a whole lot more. From our Community Cafe and Clothes & Dishes service to weekly drop-in support sessions, the Greenhills Hub is a place where help feels human.

Foodbank

Weekly food parcels

We supplied around 13,000 food parcels in 2025 — over 1,000 per month. With the cost of living crisis worsening conditions for people already struggling, that number gets bigger every year.

Parcels are nutritionally complete and can include:

  • Frozen food
  • Halal food
  • Non-perishable
  • Baby formula
  • Pet food
  • Dietary requirement options

We also help with homeware and toiletries:

  • Bedding
  • Warm jackets
  • Duvets
  • Sanitary products
  • Clothing
  • Nappies
  • Pre-natal products
  • Period products

Community cafe

A warm space for everyone

The Loaves and Fishes Community Cafe

Since moving to our premises at 18 Greenhills Square, we've set up and run a community cafe. It's a safe, warm space where anyone can come in for free tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat — open the same hours as the foodbank, 10am – 1:30pm.

The cafe hosts our "A Space To Talk" sessions, and a donated PC gives free access to essential services — job applications, CV preparation, looking for financial and mental health support. The PC was kindly donated by the Rotary Club of Strathaven.

We also host smoking cessation classes, pensioners' groups, Narcotics Anonymous, and a variety of other community groups. Our hub is a true community space.

Clothes & Dishes

A shop where no money changes hands

In addition to food, our Clothes & Dishes section lets customers pick up clothes and/or household goods. If your child needs a warm jacket, you need blankets for warmth, or an electrical item — the likelihood is you can't easily get this yourself.

Our service is unique because we offer the experience of a shop where no money changes hands. Everything donated to us goes to those who need it; nothing is sold.

Support at the hub

Because help is about more than food

Food insecurity is rarely the whole story. The Greenhills Community Hub offers more than weekly food parcels — it's a place where you can get the right kind of help, at the right time. Whether you're facing housing issues, looking for work, or just need someone to talk to, we're here.

A Space to Talk
